The research supporting the use of hypnotherapy to help address life issues increasingly grows. Large parts of this evidence come from empirical studies and is why it is being recognised by the NHS as a positive tool for helping in areas such as IBS and pain management.

The information below is a general guide and in no way exhaustive of where hypnotherapy can be a positive addition to your life or how hypnotherapy can be applied to create the change you may be seeking. 

 

Anxiety. 

Most of us have experienced anxiety at some point in our lives, whether that be taking an exam, worrying about money, or knowing we are going into a confrontational situation, whether that be within the home or at work. 

We know the feeling of all the physical sensations that flood our body, all the thoughts that spin in our heads. This can be uncomfortable and exhausting, but usually only for a short period of time. The situation passes, we are able to direct our attention towards other areas of our lives. 

But sometimes we can get stuck in that place where we have thoughts that seem to keep us in a place of constant worry leaving us exhausted. Often this can be made worse by poor sleep and before we know it our whole lives have changed. 

Hypnotherapy can help with this. You can gain control of those intrusive, restricting thoughts and become the person you want to be.

 

Phobias. 

How amazing is our brain? All it takes is just one occasion to develop a phobia, just one time to walk past a barking, jumping dog as a small child and have your mother react negatively towards it , just one time that you struggle to swallow that piece of steak and BAM it’s there – that fear of dogs, that inability to eat beef. 

This is why there are so many different phobias, it can be one negative experience, quite frequently with one seemingly harmless thing- flipflops, puddles, custard even.

Quite often people aren’t aware of what has caused their phobia as it has been a part of their daily lives over an extended period of time, until it has just become an uncomfortable and frequently inconvenient part of who they are. 

As you are reading this, I assume you’ve had enough of how this is impacting your life and are seeking to address this unwanted reaction that you have and to be free of it.

 The really good news is that as it was learnt and just became a part of who you are it can be unlearnt, you can be free of it.

 Just for a moment now close your eyes and imagine your life without it. It looks and feels good, doesn’t it? 

 

Chronic pain. 

Pain can literally take over every aspect of our lives. It can make us socially withdrawn, irritable, sleep deprived impacting our most important relationships but most importantly how we see ourselves and our thoughts on what our future may be like as it can become all we can see. 

Pain can become so much more than just the area that is feeling sore, tight, throbbing, aching, or tingling or any other word you would use to describe your pain. Often people with chronic pain can experience depression, anxiety, lower self-confidence, have feelings of helplessness and frustration, especially if you feel that you are losing your independence.

Insomnia. 

Sleep, it should be so simple, so easy, but for many this is not the case. Sleep is a very important part of our lives. It is a time that the body undertakes repairs, produces different hormones, has a prolonged period of decreased blood pressure. 

Often, we don’t appreciate how important sleep is until it is disturbed, and if it is repeatedly disturbed our bodies let us know that its impact is being felt. It often follows that our mental ability starts to lessen, and our mood plummets, life becomes hard work through exhaustion, impacting many areas of our lives as a consequence. 

In addition, sustained and prolonged insomnia has been shown to negatively impact our long-term health. 

It is a common problem that many people suffer with, and the causes can vary for each person. 

If you are suffering with prolonged periods of insomnia, there are different approaches that can be taken to help you resolve it. Each person’s experience and causes of insomnia are different so the approaches used may be different for each person.  Details we gather during the assessment session should provide a clear path to the right approach for you. 

 

Irritable Bowel Syndrome. 

This common chronic condition can dictate how a life is lived. It can induce anxiety, social withdrawal, embarrassment.

This is a condition that can become even more pronounced with the anxiety that it causes so people can find themselves in a seemingly never-ending circle that just seems to make the condition more pronounced in their lives. 

The NHS states that hypnotherapy can help some people reduce their symptoms. The reason for this is that there are many research studies that provide evidence for this.  

Stress is closely related to this condition, the mind-body connection is a powerful thing! Making hypnotherapy a useful tool to address the issue.

The number of sessions required will be dependent upon the severity and the possible causes as to why it is being experienced. 

Please don’t continue to suffer when there is a way that this can be addressed to make life better. 
 

Habits. 

Some habits are not a problem but when they become a problem, they can seem impossible to break because we have routinely done them, they seem to just be there. 

For example, if you’re a thumb sucker and you do this to calm or reassure yourself and find that you are doing this at your desk at work because a big report needs to be completed in a short period of time then it can lead to embarrassment and feel that we may be judged by others. 

Habits tend to come from a need to soothe. And for some this can result in thumb sucking, rocking, foot tapping, nail biting, nose picking etc.  Understandably they tend to become more noticeable in times of stress and this is where hypnotherapy can help because you can learn new ways of addressing that stress and become less reliant on the habit you want to lose. 

 

Weight Loss. 

Losing weight can seem like an impossible up hill task sometimes. The truth is there is so much more to losing weight than just controlling what you eat. We can examine the reasons for your eating habits or your possible lack of motivation, your self-worth, confidence, and esteem and why sometimes food can seem to be the only comfort that hits the mark and gives you what you need. 

This problem is so very individual and can be rooted in so many different aspects of an individual it is expected that you will need more than one session.
